When I was younger. My Dad used to tell me, “If it wasn’t for your (high school) tuition - I’d be driving a (your favorite sports car).” Even though, I was benefiting from his “poor choice in resource allotment”, I still used to snicker to myself. What a fool for not cashing in himself just to pay my prep school tuition! And then here I am, 10 years later. And this is what I am, just now, beginning to begin to learn about life. He understood the real meaning of success.
We’re not that great. This is a sobering lesson. It’s also an explanation as to why us Millennials are the fuel, the foundation, and the “go” behind the Occupy Movement. The reality of it is, we can do better. We can be less entitled to do more and be more willing to do the work to get there. My generation (18-29) is a strong one. We are aware, educated, and talented. But that’s not enough, we must be self-reliant. As those old folks say, “If you ever need a helping hand, it’s at the end of your arm.” Instead of taking food, shelter, clothes, and life’s resources from our parents, perhaps we should just take our parents’ advice.

Millennials. There is the pesky culture that manifests in many of us. We have bedtimes. We shorten our work days. We enjoy a moderate pace that promotes “longevity and consistency”. We don’t push the envelope. We charge it. We rent it. We delegate it. We wait to be commanded. We vacation every six weeks. We flat-brim it. We dye it. We tat it. And to be perfectly honest, we listen to more bass than to the substance flowing melodically over the beat, that fights for our attention.

A Powerful Demographic. And an interesting infographic, the Millennial generation is changing the way communication flourishes. Word of mouth advertising and message amplification goes through us. They may not be your target demographic or even your sought-out consumer but if you can find a way to engage this group, you win.
