Trickle up. Kanye West made news today by simply going on an unsolicited truth-spree. While his spurt of tweets could be deemed hilarious by some, obnoxious by most - it is a great example of how social media can instantaneously influence social networks and more traditional media when the message is sensational (or even aggravating) enough. Anatomy of a Twitter rant.

Nike Air x Kanye West. The Nike Air Yeezy: Two. The combination of styles combine to make the most profitable shoe manufactured by a major sporting company: hip hop’s most controversial star, pro basketball, and French fashion lent its influence, concept, materials (see crocodile skin) to Nike’s most expensive and exclusive shoe. See original post, the first sighting of the concept.

Arte. Some photos don’t need captions.

Yeezy Teaches Nike. The most hotly anticipated holiday season commodity (by Nike) isn’t co-owned by Michael Jordan or endorsed by Lebron James. The Nike Air Yeezy II launch has been a lesson in the art of anticipation, the amplifying ability of social media, and the paid premium on level 10 design and collaboration. Once again, Hip Hop goes somewhere that few said it would. A generally disliked music phenom will generate the most shoe excitement in the past year. Ladies and gentleman, a preview of Nike’s Air Yeezy II’s by Kanye West. Nike, Yeezy taught you well. Yeezy taught you well.

Who Is In The “Jay-Z Crowd”? Hip Hop Grows Up.

What My Dad Taught Me About Hip Hop. The video above was taken by my father at Sunday night’s “Watch The Throne” concert in North Carolina. Hip Hop’s influence is bleeding through the lines of demarcation that have been in place for decades or even centuries. The culture’s influence goes well beyond the marketing of: sports, shoes, clothes, champagne, cars, and other luxury items. We are living in a time that marketing mavens like Steve Stoute have coined The Tanning of America and it’s about time that the rest of professional America took note.

The phrase is not indicative of a shift of a color or race’s relevance, but rather, a shift in mindset. I was shocked when I called my father on a Sunday afternoon to hear the words: “Young man, I have box seats at this Jay-Z and Kanye concert tonight.” My father had just left his job with Time Warner to focus on life, health, and family. But regardless of his newfound freedom, a concert? On Sunday? Starring who???!

Earned Media Case Study - Kanye

The most polarizing figure in show business can teach us a lesson or two about social marketing campaigns. A few nights back, I took a moment to check out the blaring hysteria around Kanye’s short film release, “Runaway.” The production wasn’t short of artistic. The film honed in on a multitude of artistic, cultural, and controversial elements to keep people talking for days. Pure sensationalism. But that’s just my opinion, critics have had polar reactions to the 35 minute film. This isn’t another review or an aggregator of the many artistic influences that Kanye used to direct, produce, and act in this film. For that list, click here. This is about his insanely effective media approach and the purpose of the metaphorical film - explaining his brand, promoting his album, and competing with a special someone (more later).
