The Psychology of Appearance
Linkedin love. The most important social platform for anyone over the age of 20? Linkedin. It is the most misunderstood and underestimated social network. But as solid connections continue to be forged and business deals continue to be affirmed, us grown ups will eventually value Linkedin’s more meaningful social interactions. For many, in business, life depends on it. [[MORE]] But is it...

On Setting Lofty Expectations
New York, New York.  At 24 years old, my younger brothers are truly gifted - two young men who have not only found a way to beat statistics, they’ve pummeled the odds. But then again, so has much of my family. I earlier wrote about the forcefulness behind my Grandmother’s influence in our lives. “Graduate, graduate, graduate,” she would say. “Because if you...

Good look at a few of my favorite shops in Columbus. Great guys at the Milk Bar Boutique and Tiger Tree. I look forward to seeing them develop their national / international e-commerce presence.

Politics Aside: Observations on "Breaking the...
1.8 miles. It began as a routine visit to a branch office of J.P. Morgan Chase to talk to my banker about my business accounts. I was staring out of his window, noting the presence of upward mobility (in the capitol city of a state that continues to fight for economic strength). Soon after, we began the most interesting conversation. A routine 20 minute visit evolved into an hour long...

Basics of: A Complete Web Strategy
There are several pieces of the puzzle when it comes to an online strategy for improving brand advocacy. Whether it’s a social cause, retail, or a media platform, this (basic) approach can be applied effectively. Granted, the personnel involved have to have a superior understanding of each element of the strategy (brand psychology, design, SEO, SEM, social media, and...

FNL Book Review: "Is it gonna f*** up my season?"
These are the immortal words of the very mortal James “Boobie” Miles after severing his anterior cruciate ligament in a pre-season game before his senior year at the legendary Odessa Permian High School in West, Texas. James let that specific moment do more than hurt his season and there is a new book detailing just how far he fell. Because of his tragic injury, his name became a...

Klout's Good For One Thing: Measuring Brand...
Admittedly, I’m not always the biggest fan of the Klout measurement. The algorithm is occasionally finicky and small changes can make drastic changes in score. For instance, my Klout score with my former Twitter handle was 53 - a week ago. As of today, my new handle - @Web has a score is 60. Did a few weeks of tweeting from my own name make that big of a difference? Maybe, maybe not. But...

Brands and Word of Mouth: What's Your Hashtag?
If you’ve ever searched a topic on Twitter, you know what a hashtag is. Most know it as the successor to the Internet Relay Chat’s (IRC) metadata tag that classified chats, groups, and topics through the 90’s. Back then hashtags were contained to smaller groups - mainly early adopters of the internet.  Later, it became more common place. Used in MSN’s .net messenger or...
